Sustainability

As a family owned company, sustainable practices are at the heart of everything we do. In fact, the very nature of our business means we are building it for future generations- and we like to think this is one of the many reasons we’ve been around since 1798!

It was almost 50 years ago that Anthony Wainwright, Boodles Chairman at the time, and his wife Jean Wainwright were invited to visit the Cullinan Mine by The World Diamond Council to see where some of their diamonds were being sourced.

It was an eye-opening trip and one that set the wheels in motion for Boodles commitment to ethical sourcing and traceability. Anthony and Jean witnessed world-leading mining standards, and the visit allowed them to experience the positive impacts mining could have on surrounding communities, providing livelihoods for thousands of workers and their families.

Our Mission

As a sixth-generation family business, the decisions we make today are of the utmost important for the future of the Boodles brand and will be judged by generations to come. We recognise the importance of our actions on the environment and 2018 marked a turnaround year for Boodles in terms of our approach to sustainability.

Charity has always been at our core, but our eyes were opened to the possibility of trying to be a more sustainable company, of taking responsibility for our actions, and understanding the impact of our work on the world in which we live.

We have a real opportunity to make a difference today, not just through charitable giving, but through our commitment to sustainable business practices.

We feel we are making strides in the right direction and were thrilled to be awarded Walpole’s 2023 'British Luxury Brand of the Year' award, in particular recognition of the work we are doing in this area.

It has been refreshing to see how many of our staff are passionate about this as well. It has been a fascinating journey so far, and clearly one that has only just begun.

Thank you for visiting this section of the Boodles website. I hope you find it interesting, and if you would like to discuss anything specific, please feel free to email us directly at sustainability@boodles.com

A Family Journey

“Our mission is to become leaders in traceability by ensuring that the gems and precious metals used in our jewellery are responsibly sourced and adequately traced to their origin. With that, we pledge to actively contribute to the welfare of mining communities and support fair trade principles. As a family business that truly cares about doing the right thing, we are committed to sharing our authentic efforts and reporting our progress in order to set a positive example for other businesses. We hope that in doing so others will embrace sustainability as a fundamental pillar of their operations”.
