Pink Diamonds

Very few things in the world are as rare - or as breathtaking- as a pink diamond. Renowned for their beauty and scarcity, these mesmerising gems have long been sought after by collectors and connoisseurs, with their value only increasing over time. Above all, pink diamonds embody the very essence of what Boodles aspires to be: unique, rare, and exceptional.

Spectacular Beauty

The Argyle Diamond Mine in Australia was once the primary source of the world’s pink diamonds. Yet, even at its peak, less than 1% of its total production was pink. Of those, only a handful - just 50 to 70 per year - were considered exceptional enough to be sold through the renowned Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender, one of the most exclusive diamond sales in the world. Prior to the mine’s closure in 2020, Boodles was invited into the Argyle Select Atelier Programme to handpick a number of important pink diamonds directly from the mine.

One Of A Kind

To put their rarity into perspective, finding a pink diamond is like discovering a single gem in the size of the land of Great Britain (80,823 sq miles). With the mine now closed and no other consistent sources discovered, pink diamonds have become even more elusive. Over the past two years, the price of pink diamonds has risen significantly, despite market fluctuations, increasing by 10-15% year on year. Quality is absolutely key in such investment pieces; therefore, Boodles prides itself on creating jewellery that features not just any pink diamond, but a Boodles pink diamond.

“Pink reminds me to aspire to the exceptional.”

Nicholas Wainwright, President

The Boodles Pink

Hues Of Pink

What makes them pink? That remains somewhat of a mystery. Unlike other coloured diamonds, which derive their hues from trace elements, the extraordinary colour of pink diamonds is believed to result from intense pressure deep within the earth. Formed over 1 billion years ago, this only adds to their intrigue- each one is a small miracle of nature, shaped by forces beyond comprehension.

Sourcing Stones

Most of these spectacular diamonds have not yet been made into jewellery, leaving plenty of room for exciting new designs in the years to come. Boodles is also incredibly fortunate to have a great relationship with Rio Tinto who sells the remaining inventory from the mine, and therefore we are able to continue to purchase the last remaining Argyle pink diamonds.
