Jewellery Care Guide

Many believe jewellery to be an heirloom. A considered purchase, it is often something that is handed down from one generation to the next. A keepsake, designed to last many a lifetime. At Boodles we use the highest standards of diamonds and gemstones, alongside Single Mine Origin gold and platinum. We have been selling fine jewellery since 1798, and we like to think we know what we’re doing - we will never compromise on quality or craftsmanship, and we pride ourselves on our creations.

However, as with all precious objects - a little bit of gentle maintenance is key. We have put together a jewellery care guide so you know exactly how to care for your Boodles pieces, whether they have been crafted using a selection of eye catching diamonds, or it’s gemstones such as sapphires and emeralds that take centre stage.

Maintenance

If you are passing a Boodles showroom, please pop in to have your Boodles jewellery checked and cleaned free of charge. We have specialist cleaning equipment and one of our experts will be able to check all the jewellery settings are still strong and secure. We recommend removing rings before doing manual tasks, such as gardening, visiting the gym and even doing the dishes! We also suggest removing jewellery at night. Keep your pieces away from any strong chemicals such as bleach and chlorine. If for any reason the jewellery does come into contact with these, please rinse with water immediately.

Please ensure you apply all cosmetics before you put on your jewellery. Store all jewellery in separate pouches or cases. Certain gemstones are softer than others and may be easily scratched, and even diamonds (the hardest natural substance on earth) may scratch other diamonds. Ensure that when storing jewellery you keep it away from direct sunlight, or extreme temperatures.

 Jewellery Cleaning

Specific care instructions may vary depending on the gemstones that have been used in your jewellery, so we have put together some more detailed, categorised advice below. If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of our showrooms, or our online team. We are always delighted to help.
Gemstones (including pearls, sapphires, emeralds and enamel)

We do not recommend using an ultrasonic cleaning device for gemstones, pearls or enamel as this may cause damage. Likewise please avoid cleaning with boiling water as extreme temperatures may cause damage, instead use lukewarm water.
