For the past six consecutive years Street Child has been Boodles 'Charity of the Year' due to the fantastic work they do across Africa, Asia and the rest of the world.

Street Child’s main aim is to create educational opportunities for some of the world’s most vulnerable children by bettering the education available within specific communities. This is done through the building of schools, and the education of families so they are able to set up their own small businesses and self-fund their children’s education.

Boodles supported Street Child through a variety of efforts, such as donations from the Boodles Charitable Trust and internal fundraising activations. Every penny raised was donated directly to Street Child, specifically for their work in Sierra Leone, a region close to Boodles heart. We hope that these donations will go some way towards ensuring every child in Sierra Leone has access to an education.

‘In January 2018 I went to Sierra Leone and saw the amazing work Street Child does there. Soon after returning, we appointed Street Child as our charitable partner, and it has been a special relationship’
Annie Wainwright, Trustee of the Boodles Charitable Trust
Making a difference

We visited Sierra Leone in 2018 and were blown away by the fantastic work Street Child are doing in the region. We decided then and there to make them our charity partner, it has been a special relationship that lasted 5 years.

What differentiates Street Child from other charities is that as well as donating money to local communities and building schools, they help local families with practical advice, such as teaching them how to start their own micro-businesses. The profits from these businesses provide families with the means of earning their own money and self-funding their children’s education.
It has been so exciting to see real progress being made from the funds we have raised as a company. There are now two Boodles Community schools in the diamond producing area of Sierra Leone. As well as educating local students, these schools provide teacher training to ensure there is always a supply of fully qualified teachers that are able to educate generations to come.

Over the next few years Street Child will be building and renovating thousands of schools across Sierra Leone, giving 100,000 children life-changing opportunities.

The Boodles Charity Trustees

Boodles in Sierra Leone

When Street Child began its work in Sierra Leone in 2008, it was the poorest nation in the world. Many children in Sierra Leone never complete primary school and leave school without foundational literacy and numeracy skills.

Our hope is that our fundraising for Street Child in Sierra Leone may go some way towards providing an education for young children, in an area we feel so strongly affiliated to.

Since we initiated our partnership with Street Child in 2018, several of Boodles charity trustees have been out to Sierra Leone to experience first-hand the work Street Child is doing and have met some phenomenally inspiring people along the way.
