The Family
We’ve been different from the very beginning. No other luxury brand hails from Liverpool, or has been steered by six generations of the same family for over two hundred years. Even now, our presence on Bond Street is exceptional in that we’re one of the only family-owned British jewellers.
Jody and James are at the helm with the support of Honour and Geordie who represent the 6th generation of the business. Nicholas has the role of President, while Michael serves as Chairman, ensuring continuity as Boodles continues through the generations. Meet the individuals who are keeping Boodles in the family.
Nicholas Wainwright
President
Nicholas Wainwright has been working at Boodles for over half a century and now holds the title of President within the company. His unwavering dedication to the brand is evident as he maintains a steadfast approach to every aspect of the business.
As President, he is particularly passionate and involved in the Design Department. From providing guidance and mentorship to Boodles staff, to being involved in unforgettable events and engaging with customers, his influence and character is evident across all facets of the business. Nicholas' vision extends far beyond the present, he is and always has been, driven by his determination to propel Boodles to greater heights with each generation.
Michael Wainwright
Chairman
After 40 years of working at Boodles, Michael still looks forward to Monday mornings. His time as Managing Director, some of it shared with his brother Nicholas, started almost 25 years ago and came to an end at the start of March 2024. Since then Michael has been Boodles Chairman.
Over the last two and a half decades, Michael has worked tirelessly on Boodles jewellery design, developing the Boodles brand and reinventing and perfecting many other areas of the business:
"In my opinion the most important thing for any business is the quality of its staff, and at Boodles we pride ourselves on this. I am very happy with the legacy which I leave to my nephews Jody and James who have recently taken over as Managing Directors. I very much look forward to working with them as Chairman and have total confidence in them."
Michael’s own children; Geordie and Honour are also fully involved in the business.
As the business enters its sixth generation within the same family, we have no intention of selling. We see ourselves as caretakers of the Boodles legacy for future generations - maintaining our reputation as the most exciting British fine jeweller, and doing our very best to excel at every stage of the journey.
James Amos
Managing Director
James Amos joined Boodles in 2004 and proceeded to manage the Harrods boutique for a number of years. He then moved to Ireland with his wife whilst running the Dublin shop for three years. Following his return to the UK in 2011, he became Marketing Director and started to build up a team to take the Boodles brand to the next level. The Walpole award for ‘British Luxury Brand of the Year’ in 2023 was a high point in his career.
The intersection between jewellery design and storytelling is something that James has championed at Boodles over the last decade, whilst a very busy company events schedule fills any spare moments throughout the year.
James has now become joint Managing Director along with his cousin Jody Wainwright. Whilst he finds all aspects of the business interesting, it is the brand and the strategic decisions needed to grow the business that really motivate him. Coupled with this is a passion for sustainability, and a firm belief that this is key to the future for Boodles.
Jody Wainwright
Managing Director
"I particularly enjoy being involved in the sale of a piece of jewellery, when I remember where I first saw the gemstone and why I bought it - what I felt at the time. It's quite personal: finding something special and being able to tell the story that lies behind it, and finally seeing the home in which it shall remain."
This passion for gemstones takes Jody all around the world, and more recently, has led to the formation of Boodles 'Peace of Mined' project. Boodles collaborates with a number of diamond mines to source rough diamonds directly from the mine. The diamonds are then polished in-house before being sent off for GIA certification - a process that allows full traceability throughout.
“I even get to pick the exact diamond shape and some of the finer details during the polishing process…”
Honour Wainwright
Director of Marketing
Honour Wainwright joined Boodles in 2020 from the media company Condé Nast and is the first female family member to join the company in Boodles history! Honour has spent some time as both Head of Communications and Brand Manager and now oversees the marketing department in its entirety, an element of the business she has always been passionate about.
And how did Honour feel about joining the family firm?
“I am hugely excited to be the first female family member to join Boodles - and with that comes an enormous sense of responsibility! Although over 50% of Boodles management roles are held by women in the company, the industry is still very much male dominated. Therefore, I feel a duty to advocate for greater female representation, whether that be as craftswomen, gemmologists or within other senior management positions in the industry at large. This, alongside ensuring Boodles continues to be a pioneer in the field of traceability, is what I am truly passionate about.”
Geordie Wainwright
Geordie is the newest member of the family to join Boodles and has joined straight from a four year stint at Amazon, where he was working in their retail department. He is currently based in the flagship showroom on Bond Street, gaining experience as to what it’s like working at the forefront of the business. In a short period of time Geordie has really enjoyed building some great relationships with a range of clients, and he loves just how varied his role is, with each day bringing a new challenge.
He is also heavily involved in managing Boodles relationship with Patek Philippe, working closely with their team and the four Patek Philippe store managers.
In 2023, Geordie visited the Cullinan Mine in South Africa and subsequently spent 2 months in New York working with the Goldberg family, learning all about the renowned Ashoka cut diamond. This experience sparked a real interest in Boodles diamond and gemstone sourcing and Geordie is excited to continue working with Boodles partners over the years to come, whilst maximising traceability across the board.
